Field Notes #3: The Van Horne Trio
Above: Matt Sartor, Aaron Olfert, Lee Holland at infamous and awesome Elite Restaurant, Penticton BC
Okanagan wine 'characters', Matt Sartor, Aaron Olfert and Lee Holland form The Van Horne Trio. Last night I caught their set at The Elite in Penticton, a favourite watering hole of the cellarhanding, vineyard-tending, and winemaking crowd of the South Okanagan.

Enjoyable jazz standards were played well with Matt Sartor (Grower/Manager at Sartor Estate Vineyard) on the piano, Aaron Olfert (Touted the "best" wine consultant at the Penticton VQA Shop at the Wine Information Centre) on the drums, and Lee Holland (of Celista Winery and also of another band that played moments after - Moon Rocks) on the standup Bass. My favourite musical moment was a sort of 'redneck-y' (that's Matt Sartor's description once I commented after the show) play of Dave Brubeck's Take Five.
They are playing again at Therapy Vineyards tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to more from the Van Horne Trio. See you there!
