On July 13th 2014 in Penticton British Columbia, the 4th Annual GranFondo Axel Merckx was another incredible day on the bike. CEO Chris Guillemet of the enthusiastic sponsoring company, Velofix Mobile Pro Bike Shop, shares a little about his experience as a rider and supporter.

Close to 3,000 riders were at the start line in downtown Penticton and they soon found out why this is considered one of the top GranFondos in North America.
All companies and events get their energy and culture from the leaders and that is why this Fondo is a first class event. Axel and wife Jodi care about the Okanagan, the volunteers and the riders. Belgian born to father Eddy Merckx, a 5-time Tour de France champion, Axels former pro road bicycling career spanned from 1993 to 2007 and fetched him a bronze medal in the Olympics, and six #1 belgian rider placements in eight of his completed Tour de France World Cup races.
The beautiful part of this fondo is that you can ride different distances and you decide how you want to spend your day on the bike. You can race against others or the clock, you can ride with your friends or you can enjoy the scenery and have a relaxed time checking out the South Okanagan. All riders end up in downtown Penticton for the post-ride celebration that includes local food and drinks.
The goal of this event is to get people on their bikes and spend time with others who share that passion.
We at Velofix are proud to support this event and will be back in 2015 to make sure the riders are looked after on the course with our Velofix Mobile Pro Bike Shop, a Mercedes van outfitted to state-of-the-art standards in repair and servicing, that will be on alert for the duration of the race/ride to keep everyone rolling in top form.
