Meadow Vista Honey Wines, Bee Joyful with Judie Barta

Meadow Vista Honey Wines

To spend the afternoon on the first of May with Judie Barta at her newly opened winery, meadery and farm really was joyful, and an utterly sweet embodiment of spring and its bright possibilities. Judie Barta, Honey Winemaker, creative vision-maker, healer and educator shared a couple of hours with eight of us uninitiated in to the art of mead or honey wine, taking us through a sensory wine tasting and in to the winemaking facility.

Here is my story in pictures...

A sensory tasting - 6 items on a plate, 5 wines. The plated items represent the essential flavours our palate can potentially find in the wines. We explore sour lemon or umami-filled blue cheese and how the different flavours relate and work with the wines poured.

Judie Barta shares her wine and some history on the art of Meadery and it's origins… starting back in Africa 1000's of years ago, along the banks of the Nile

My Mother Barbara Murtland, a designer,  takes in the bright and appealing aesthetic of the tasting room and is introduced to the beautiful work of a local artist working in encaustic (beeswax)

Judie Barta's parallel career in the healing arts is integrated into the experience at Meadow Vista through her inclusion of healthy recipes using her wines, honey and other food products. She's also got the tools of her other trade, a massage table in the lower level, and plans for weekly yoga classes out back starting soon.

The room is full of life and sweet details

Judie Explains the winemaking process

After the sensory tasting of the new wines, Judie offers us the opportunity to share a bottle of her first vintage, 10 year back! We select the bottle to bring it back up to the tasting room.
