Among the many events and activities spread through the beautiful and busy days of the Okanagan summer, we all long for one ultra luxurious setting. Its the luxury of relaxation that I am talking about, and the setting... A picnic blanket.
Yes, the picnic, it's the place of all summer's myth: the romance of a lake breeze, summer sun, dappled light through the trees of a park setting. Deeply imprinted memories of picnics gone by. Peaches, cold roast chicken, bbq rib left overs, watermelon slices, or brand new takes on picnic fare, like your best summer salad or vegan and gluten free treats. You can create your own idealized picnic. The sky's the limit. Im just getting your picnic appetite and creative juices flowing...
Much like Diner en Blanc (one of our much loved annual Okanagan events) who encourages creative culinary forays, presentation, and execution of an idealized al fresco dining experience, there's a new society forming... The Okanagan Picnic Society.
Last week, recent Okanagan Picnic Society founder Shelley Hughes got in touch to tell me about the idea and new group formation, that sparked brightly in my heart... which leads to and from my taste buds and stomach with ease. If you have a love for the summertime institution of "The Picnic", then be sure to join the facebook group here. Our first event is in September.
I hope to see us break some old boundaries too. I envision many picnics in all 4-seasons... a harvest picnic! A snow picnic! A spring blossom picnic! The locations and reasons for al fresco eating never end!
Thanks so much Shelley for bringing together this sweet new group. Join here -
Bon Appétit, and see you on the blanket!
