Make Food An Initiation With Nature

Bee Drunk on Pollen

Meditate on your ingredients. Unite.

Know their heritage. Know their environment. Know their nature. Know what you build yourself from. Know yourself.

In practicing true mindful nourishing, you awaken compassion. Compassion is connection. Your footprints get lighter, your conscience lightens and passion runs deeper when your spirit knows it is in accord with nature, not its adversary. The small delights awaken out of the everyday, like watching bees drunk in flowers on pollen. That works for me. There is a kind of universal eroticism in watching what is natural work together, taking pleasure in itself. Mutual honouring and love everywhere. To live and nourish yourself in balance with this is to be initiated into this beautiful world. Leaving the darkness of ignorance and flowing with nature is a limitless  swell of pleasure. I watched bees in the garden this morning and thought of this Kahlil Gibran insight...

And now you ask in your heart, "How shall we distinguish that which is good in pleasure from that which is not good?" Go to your fields and your gardens, and you shall learn that it is the pleasure of the bee to gather honey of the flower, But it is also the pleasure of the flower to yield its honey to the bee. For to the bee a flower is a fountain of life, And to the flower a bee is a messenger of love, And to both, bee and flower, the giving and the receiving of pleasure is a need and an ecstasy.
People of Orphalese, be in your pleasures like the flowers and the bees.
- Kahlil Gibran

It seems like my life is getting simpler and simpler by the day, as this market year goes by. In this simplicity, the most stunning beauty of my life is being shown to me.

So much gratitude,

Tarynn xo
